Epson P900 ink shortage
« on: March 13, 2022, 10:28:36 am »

I am pretty amazed at how difficult it is to find the inks for this printer, especially the Light Gray T47A9 (C13T47A900), not only in my country (Italy) but apparently in various parts of Europe.
Same thing in Epson's online store, which has several out of stock. I tried to email Epson, and they can't tell me a date when they will be available again.
I repeat: this amazes me very much (in a negative way), also considering that - as in my case - the lack of one cartridge is enough to be no longer able to use the printer.

I suspect they will blame it on "Supply Chain". So hopefully things will get better in a few months. I have not been able to get Kodak C-41 film chemicals for months etc. for the same reasons...

Another option if you print a lot. Buy the refillable carts and chip resetter and then buy the 350ml carts for the 9750 but only the 10 you need.
Pretty sure it is the same ink just 12 channels for the larger printer.
Do your research on the ink and printer modification if required. The 350 carts for the bigger printer are .42 per ml and for the 900 you are paying .82, double.
First you must determine if the Pro10 and Pro 12 are the same Ultrachrome product.
The P800 took a printer modification and the P900 may need a similar solution? Nothing is easy.

There is no such software or hardware solution for US-distributed P900s at this stage - they're lock to OEM.  In Europe, EU law means that there is a refillable solution.  Not sure about other markets.  In a recent Inkjetmall newsletter, they pointed out that there are very few new Epson printers for which they can supply refillables, and were encouraging people to buy second hand ones, esp the P800, for use with their inks.

I posted about the same problem about the P800. Couldn't find matte and photo black for awhile, but then I could, so I'm good for awhile.

It's the chips. Each cartridge has that damn chip that communicates with the printer. Chips are in everything, and in very short supply. I just read that Ford is shipping vehicles with certain frivolous functions, like rear seat HVAC controls disabled, for now, just to get them in customer's hands.

Yes Epson has really doubled down. We have a P8000 that we converted to dye sublimation. The chips are one use only. The replaceable chips are $20 each which is not bad considering we have 700 ml carts and the first batch lasted almost two years. Run them down, get a warning. Refill and change the chip.
