Canon Pro 300 printer and Photoshop on Apple M1
« on: February 26, 2022, 02:44:24 pm »

I have been having an ongoing dialogue with Canon support.

I have an Apple M1 desktop and run the latest versions of LR Classic and Photoshop.  My Canon Pro 300 printer came with Canon's Professional Print and Layout which either runs on its own or as plug-ins for both LR and Photoshop.  I have used it from LR and am impressed.  Even though Canon tells me it is installed correctly it does not appear as a plug-in in Photoshop.  Canon now tell me this is a known issue with Apple M1, and Photoshop needs to be opened with Rosetta.

I cannot seem able to do this, and have searched the web.  Again this is a known issue and to open with Rosetta needs Geographic Installer, for which there is a payment. The web seems to indicate that all this is because the plug-in that is not appearing is not fully compatible with Photoshop on M1.  The Scrooge in me means I am not prepared to pay out for Geographic Installer

This is a shame.

Is there no other way to print in PS? No actual print driver?
Clearly Canon needs to fix/update the plugin for native M1.

In the PS application folder, right click Photoshop>run Rosetta doesn't work?

Andrew, in answer to your queries.
Yes, I can print as normal from PS, just not via Canon Print and Layout as a plug-in.
Right clicking the Photoshop application icon does not show anything to do with Rosetta in the resulting drop down menu or submenus.
Yes it looks like Canon have more work to do!

Andrew,

In Applications, Photoshop is listed, but only as a folder.  I have now left clicked this to reveal a subset of folders, including PS and Plug-ins.  Right clicking PS and then clicking Get Info does show a box Open on Rosetta.  I have ticked that.  Opening PS from either the Applications folder or the icon on my desktop does not show the plug-in when clicking Automate.  The plug-in does show in the Plug-in folder under Applications.  I have reported this to Canon.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Andrew,

I have had a notification of an update for PS.  I have downloaded and installed it, and, Bingo !,  Canon Professional Print and Layout appears under Automate; it works.  The PS update corrects some bugs so perhaps this was one.

Thanks for your help.

Best wishes,

Jonathan
