LED Lights for Portraits
« on: February 17, 2022, 08:24:45 pm »

I have a Neewer LED Continuous Light Model NL 360 ARC . Is this enough light to use for My portraits?   I know I will have to increase the ISO
Anyone have experiences with LED lights for indoor portraits or Suggestions   Thank you

Well, since you have it, why not just try and use it? Working with continuous light can be very pleasing unless you need small apertures. The only problem I see with panels is you won´t be able to have "hard" light as they are always diffused.

Godox FL150 - one of the best LED panels I know. Disadvantage: works like a softbox only.

Hi Michael,

Godox also offer different shapes (like the Godox FL150R). But how about its spectral output? Any information about how uniform it is?

Most LED panels show somewhat uneven output across the visible spectum, some of which may be tackled by using a custom-made color profile, but it needs smooth/enough spectral band power in the camera's/sensor's relevant spectral bands to allow for such a correction.

Cheers,
Bart

P.S. I do wonder if this from a Russian manufacturer?

Hi Bart,

can't find the spectrographs I made when I purchased them in 2019 (will provide them later), but of course they are rather "spikey", as any LED panels are. Nevertheless, their spectral output was the smoothest I could find (besides Yuji), rather stable over time, dimmable, adjustable between 3600-5300 K, with a rather high CRI of 97/98 (yes, I know, this doesn't mean anything). Panels are foldable, light and come with V-mount for accu/outdoor use.

I use them for video and repro work, using custom profiles for the Sony A7r3. So far no problems.

Godox sits in Shenzhen, China.

Any further info on spectral output, from anyone, is welcome.

Not true. Just move it farther away.

The exposure triangle would disagree with you.

I have Moman LED panels and they let you adjust the light temperature.
