Lightroom Classic Confused Folders
« on: January 26, 2022, 03:59:41 pm »

I just imported 106,000 files from Aperture into Lightroom. It took two weeks but success achieved.
The Collections folder is exactly the way it was in Aperture.
However the Folders were a mess, running to 30 Pages or more.

I used Show Parent Folder to get it basically correct but there are some obvious corruptions as seen in the photo, with the same folder in two different locations.
For Example 2016-05-04_MotionBlur is shown correctly under 2016_Studio, but also by itself further down.

2016_Studio should be under 2016_Hasselblad and all of 2016_Hasselblad , 2016_Canon etc should be under 2016.

I have tried starting up with Opt key held and ticking check Integrity, but it only goes for about 20 secs so it can't be doing much.
Any ideas on how to fix please?

Corruptions? Explain.
Collections in LR are a totally different beast, actual folder structure is what it is; you alter them in Lightroom Classic. Just as you would/could but should not in the Finder.
You fix this by creating, move, deleting, renaming the folders as you desire IN Lightroom Classic itself.

but it clearly isn't, as the same folders like "MotionBlur" are listed twice as shown in the photo.
If I try to move them it tells me the folder is already there and I can't add the parent folder "2016_Hasselblad"

Well like the Finder, you can't move a folder with the same name but try it there, what happens?
IF you can, then go back into LR and it will show you, its confused because you did a move behind it's back and you'll have to 'fix' it there anyway.
How Aperture structured your folders is Apertures doing no?

Ok, so I checked i had a backup this morning and tried to move the incorrect one to the correct location.
It told me a folder there already had the same name.
So I highlighted the bottom incorrect one, right clicked on it and renamed it MotionBlur2
It did not change the name on the bottom one, it changed the name on the top one! Both still had the same 91 images.
If i try to remove the bottom one I can't, no error, just no response.
If i try to move it won't let me.
I tried Find Missing Folder and it told me it was already there and offered the option to Merge.
I did that and all of the images went to the correct folder, with zero now on the incorrect one.
However I still can't remove the incorrect folder. Remove option does nothing.

So the folder structure in Lightroom is not the folder structure in Finder. It is just a database with a corruption.

Aperture didn't need a folder structure, you can have your files anywhere. If you moved files in the Finder it would tell you they were missing and give you the option Locate Missing Originals.

The structure is what it is.
Simply import the root folder.
LR doesn't create or move them with out user input.

I fixed it (almost) by Removing the folders totally, dragging them back from backup and re- Adding them.
