The Cold Moon
« on: December 19, 2021, 12:37:14 am »

Cold day for it too. We went xc skiing today and got a late start to let the temperature rise from its subzero start.
But that made me a little late afterward to stop by the house, get the bigger camera gear, and try to get somewhere good for the moonrise. The air quality was extremely clear and although cold it was nice and calm. I went to one location and then changed my mind to come here, just from the shoulder of Highway 50 West of town. I thought this might line up with this particular tree and it worked out. I probably can do a better job but I was happy how it went for being a little rushed.

Beautiful work. The second composition is spectacular. Looks like there was some atmospheric distortion going on.

Thanks! This is the composition I have been thinking about for years. It's kind of low hanging fruit in that it is a roadside shot but of course timing needs to work out and for me so far it hadn't. I haven't seen anyone else take this particular shot although the tree is somewhat known to photographers. So I'm always happy to get a different take on something.

Thanks! It was just one of those times it all comes together. Always fun when that happens! :)

Just amazing.  The second one looks like moon rolling down the hill - helped along by the tree.

Really enjoyable and the compositional placement of the moon in the second one is extra special.

Good shooting Matt  :)

It was exciting to see this composition was going to work after thinking about it so long.
