Moving from C1 to LR
« on: November 18, 2021, 10:17:16 am »

I am considering moving from Capture One to Lightroom for a number of reasons outlined in this thread: https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=139564.0

Can I import the C1 catalog into LR?
How should I proceed?
Do I have to start from scratch?

Thanks for any advice.

As far as I know there's no option to import other catalogues into LR.

I think you'll just have to start from the beginning and import all the images. Metadata written to the images and ratings should be picked up though which should make working with new catalogue easier.

If you have a big number to import it may be safest to bring things into LR in manageable batches, backing up after each major import. Then you can start working on setting it all up to your preference whilst importing in the background.

Both catalogs are proprietary. But depending on the data (for example DNGs that contain a lot of non proprietary data that is also stored in a catalog), a lot can be imported either way. The LR catalog stores the location of the images and folder structure so if you have a well organized structure, LR will fully support that. All proprietary raw process or parametric edits will not transfer either way; they are proprietary.
So: No you can't import the C1 catalog itself. But no, you don't have to start totally from scratch.
