Blend If is not working in Photoshop (Mac)
« on: November 17, 2021, 04:57:55 pm »

Blend If mode is not working in Photoshop. I have the latest version of Photoshop, 22.5.3. In this version you cannot revert to the Legacy Compositing engine, which was the old fix. Anybody know what the new fix is? Mac OS Big Sur, 11.6

Working just fine on this end, just checked. Mac OS (Monterey), last public build.
First, try disabling GPU in the preferences (Preformance tab). Any better?
If not, go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Better?

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried both, no improvement with either.

Next: Try trashing your Photoshop preferences. Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop. You will be prompted to delete the current settings.

(Mac OS only) Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder*, and drag the Adobe Photoshop CS Settings folder to the Trash.

This action only affects the items found in the preferences dialog box. Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Photoshop Preferences file, including general display options, file-saving options, performance options, cursor options, transparency options, type options, and options for plug‑ins and scratch disks. Brushes (and lots of other setting) are not affected by the above instructions for deleting preferences. You may wish to make a screen capture of the settings in the Preferences dialog to reset them prior to deleting of this file.

*To manually delete Photoshop preferences:
Quit Photoshop.
Navigate to Photoshop's Preferences folder:
macOS: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Windows 10: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Note:
The user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS. To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see How to access hidden user library files.

Drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe for a back-up of your settings

Try logging into another account (you may need to make one), still an issue?
Try starting up in Safe mode (hold down Shift Key when booting), still an issue?
You might want to try running a free utility like Onyx: still an issue?

Have you reported it to Adobe? In the preferences panel -> performance - click on the link "Learn more" and it will open a web page with a link to report issues related to composting (figures attached)

When you say it's not working/nothing etc do you mean the Layer Style window is not opening?
If so have you tried all ways to open it?

Or do you mean it opens and the Blend If sliders, blend modes etc do nothing to your images?

Have you tried this on more than 1 image?
