Preferences huh? I reset My Lightroom prefences and wow!
« on: November 13, 2021, 02:02:41 pm »

Lightroom had started to become what somewhat slow...then buggy...so i remembered resetting preferences on other applications In Years Past...and laucnhed it with new preferences and it made all the difference in the world.   Load Times are far faster..all the tools do  all they are supposed to do when theyre supposed to do their tasks.

Yup, useful for most of the Adobe products. More here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html
Don't forget for the ACR group:
Reset of the Camera Raw preferences:
Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).
Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?"

Can I save my LR preferences in case I want to restore them?

Yes. Look at the second possible method in the article Andrew linked.

I just discovered where the RAM VAMPIRE was hiding in my computer.

the larger Lightroom folders demand that one purge the camera raw cache on occasion or they seem tobloat  and eat ram like there was no tomorrow.

perusing hundreds of folders I noted i was going iot the overdrive zone as far as ram usage was concerned...

in these several minutes since discovering that purging that cache was a GOOD idea...I can barely see the thing stripe of ram usage in my mac's actiivty monitor window

Just FYI: In the undated article posted by Andrew, the file name and path of the ACR prefs file for Windows do not exist on my Windows 10 system.

However, when I change any ACR pref, three files are updated:

Workspace Prefs.psp, Adobe Photoshop 2022 Prefs.psp, and MachinePrefs.psp, which are all located in:

Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2022\Adobe Photoshop 2022 Settings

All 3 files are unreadable with a text editor, and all 3 are updated by simply opening and immediately closing Photoshop with no ACR access. So, I can't tell which one contains ACR prefs, if any.
