Use i1 Profiler software with ColorMunki Photo?
« on: October 21, 2021, 12:45:49 am »

In another forum, a user claimed to use X-Rite's i1Profiler software to build ICC printing profiles from 1600+ patches with a ColorMunki Photo (see https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/65576959). Is this possible? I was (am) under the impression that the ColorMunki Photo and i1Studio spectrophotometers only work with the older ColorMunki Photo software or newer i1Studio software, but will not work with i1Profiler. Or to put it another way, for those of us who own one of these more basic spectrophotometers, our choice is between using X-Rite software and 50+50 (or 50+100 for B&W) patch sets to build printing profiles, or Argyll CMS for larger numbers of patches. But I figure you experts can set me straight and give some practical guidance. Thanks!

Yes it is possible.
You can use i1profiler (which you have a lisence to make icc profile with it) to generate a patch (let's say 1600)
Then export the file to CGATS. Import it into Argyll (Read the instruction of how to import CGATS)
Generate the target and save it into TIFF
Print the target, measure it within Argyll with your Munki.
Save the measurement and convert it back into CGATS
Import the CGATS measurement into i1Profiler
And now you can generate your ICC profile.

The thing is most people who has access to i1profiler already has an i1pro
Unless you bought the software seperately

I really don't see the point of doing this since you can make very good RGB profile with the ColorMunki software.
If you really wanna do more than that, Argyll is a good place to start as well.

The 'limitation' is set by X-rite in terms of i1P interfacing with the ColorMunki Spectrophotometer, it will not do so.
You simply need something else that supports this instrument for reading the patches and saving out a CGATs as outlined earlier.
