Epson p800 initial cartridges
« on: October 17, 2021, 12:55:15 pm »

I bought a full set of original Initial Epson P800 cartridges; trying to use in an already initialized printer following message appear: “cartridges labeled setup are included with the printer for initial installation ONLY”.  I’ve never read/found a warning from Epson that Initial cartridges can be use only for initializing process. Do you know if it is a possibility to use such kind of original initializing cartridges? Thank You.

I don't recall any of this when I first got my P800, AFAIK, full carts. There IS a shipping fluid in all the lines in a new printer and it has to be purged by initial ink when first installed. Perhaps that's what is being referred to? That first purging will fill the lines with actual ink and the cart's will 'go down' as a result but all that ink will be used eventually (and more).

I think it is just a matter of interpretation.
"Initial installation only" to me means there is only enough in the carts for the printer to initialize.
If you actually want to print anything you will need more ink.

Absolutely not the experience I had with my P800.

Me too. My P800 (a fairly early one) came with full-sized cartridges and has worked flawlessly.

I bought P800 3 years ago, I installed supplied initial cartridges (64mml) and printer works perfect. After changing many original cartridges (80mml) I found at a good price new original Epson initial cartridge (64mml) and trying to install printer do not give permission, saying that initial cartridges are only for first time installation. Seams unfair.

I was just commenting on the statement "Initial installation only"
Let's rephrase my wording then..
Epson is warning you that you should be prepared to buy a new set of inks after initialization.

Initial carts have a separate part numbers and bar codes which can be read by the printer.  I bought similar carts for my P400.  They were dirt cheap in the market for some reason.  In that case though, it did allow me to use them but it did the initiation routine, pumping out a bunch of ink like it is priming the line for a new printer.  It is still worth it considering it is less than a third of the price.

:Niranjan.

I always wondered if I can fool the printer by swapping the bar code label from an old regular cart.

Epson is warning you that you should be prepared to buy a new set of inks after initialization.
They warn you when you need ink, initial or otherwise.
What Epson is really telling you is clear if you examine what Epson says:
Quote
The included initial cartridges are designed for reliable printer setup and cannot be used as replacement cartridges or resold. After setup, the remaining ink is available for printing. Yields are based on ISO 24711 in default mode, printing continuously. Yields vary due to print images, settings, and temperatures. Printing infrequently or primarily with one color reduces yields. All cartridges must be installed with ink for printing and printer maintenance. For print quality, some ink remains in replaced cartridges.
https://files.support.epson.com/docid/cpd5/cpd55202/source/specifications/references/wfc8690/spex_ink_cartridge_wfc8690.html
The cartridges included with the printer are designed for printer setup and not for resale. Epson clearly states: What's In The Box: 9 High-capacity 64 ml initial ink cartridges.
The non  initial cartridges are 80 ml ink cartridges; BFD. ALL the ink will be used so it isn't like the difference between 64 ml and 80 ml is such you need to worry and rush out to buy more ink.
