External editing file names
« on: September 30, 2021, 09:53:54 am »

I am not sure this is even possible, although it should be.

I use 4 external editors from Lightroom -- Photoshop and three Topaz products. I want each externally edited wile to have a suffix added that identifies which editor was used. So, filename-PS.tif for Photoshop, filename-TD.tif for Topaz denoise, and soon. The best I have been able to do is have the same suffix for all external editors. Is what I want possible?

For Denoise and Sharpen you can specify a suffix appended to the file name. Be sure all the other boxes are correctly selected. That take care of those two. Photoshop I have no solution for. Checked Denoise but not Sharpen.

Changing the name of files in LR can be very tricky and led to files not being found and other issues.  What I do is send a copy of the file or a virtual copy of the external editor-> work on the image-> save it back to LR->go to the Library Menu->Rename photo-> add some text to the original file name of your choice-> enter.

Be sure to leave the original  part of the name intact--just add to it.  If the original part gets changed, LR will have trouble locating the file.

Hope this helps

You can edit the file name within Lightroom.
In the catalog view Just edit the file name in the right panel.

Thanks for ideas. I have been editing the filename in the metadata panel but had hopes of automating the process.
