Local fall landscapes
« on: September 29, 2021, 05:41:53 pm »

I took a drive last night after work as a dark storm was approaching.
This time of year any day might be the last of the color before a wind event blows it all down so I'm trying to maximize my opportunities.

Then the storm finally caught up with me. There was a definite chill to it.

I like them all so I am not choosing one. Shows the storm phases.

I like them all too, as they do indeed show a progression. But 1 and 3 are tied in first place, for me.

Breathtaking show of nature. The play between light and shadows, clouds and blue sky and the hills is so harmonious.
Bravo!

Thanks! I'm pretty pleased with it too.
I was planning to go to Crested Butte (the summit of Mt. CB is just peeking out from behind Round Mountain on the right) because there is snow on the peaks around there and I love those "seasonal collision" kinds of shots (who doesn't?). But along the way I could see this light breaking through and it was happening right then so I had to act if I didn't want to miss it. I wasn't planning on offroading so I had the little Subarau instead of the truck but to get to this high spot there is a bit of 4x4 action and recent rains have made it potentially slippery. Thankfully the 'roo rallied right up there no problem and I was able to get some shots looking up the valley before it faded. I never made it to CB - I may try again tonight. Fall conditions are all time right now and the snow is still visible up high.

The first two images have a quiet beauty to them. The pano is lovely.

Great vista and I love the early snow on the distant hills.
