Excellent.

But a suggestion: Why not deal them out slowly, say one per day, instead of a big bunch all at once. Keep us in a little suspense, Russ!

Thanks, Eric. Only problem is that back in February, after the demise of the street series I’d started, I threw up my hands and moved over to PhotoPXL. I’m now trying to catch up with where I am over there. I see 150 street shots I’ve put on PXL that haven’t currently gone onto LuLa. I say “currently,” because I know I’ve posted some of these on LuLa before this, but I’ve lost track of which ones. And in any case, I posted them long enough ago that it won’t hurt to post ‘em again.

I guess the reasons I’m doing this are:

(1) When I stopped posting street on LuLa, the thing just died. As I recall, I was the one who argued for Street Showcase in the first place.

(2) As far as I’m concerned, street is the main reason for cameras. Yes, I know we can argue about that forever, and I suspect somebody will offer to do that, but outside of photojournalism, which used to be done with drawings, what else is there? If you check just about any museum you’ll see that landscape is better in paint, and so are portraits.

(3) I’m trying to get across the point that the difference between something like Keith’s stunningly beautiful informal portraits and street is that street is based on poetry. A street shot tells a story. Yes, to be really effective there has to be ambiguity in the story, but there has to be something there beyond a simple statement.

I’ll continue to post on PXL, but since PXL is based on WordPress, it’s both awkward and molasses slow. On LuLa we can discuss, as we’re doing now. With anything built on WordPress that’s almost impossible.
