New Compact to replace my Sony RX100 Mk I...?
« on: August 30, 2021, 09:26:47 am »

Looking for recommendations....

I'm considering the Canon G1X Mark iii. (I read rumours of a Mark iv later this year?) I like the idea of a bigger sensor. Reviews make it and the RX100 Mk VII neck-and-neck. But, they're never going to upset their paymasters, are they? (While I'm on the subject....most objective review site?)

Any other camera I should be considering?

Thanks.

A good multifocal smartphone with a decent tele lens.

You already know the Sony.  Why not stick with it?  Why do you need a larger sensor than 1"?  Keep in mind that the Mark VII will do better than your Mark 1.

A few months ago I went from an RX100 MK1 to an MK VII. I am very happy with it. The newer noise removal software, like Topaz Denoise AI and DxO DeepPrime, render the increased noise of the 1" sensor essentially a non-issue under most circumstances.

The Mark VII doesn't; have a neutral density filter, especially good for video compared to the earlier models like my IV.  Not sure what the Mark I had.  Did you notice a difference?
