This comes in standard and professional editions that are the same price and seem identical. The only mention of the difference I have seen was a difference in one ink channel - light black in the standard and violet in the pro. But this was in a user review and I am not sure I should trust it. Anyone here know? Thanks.

Photographers typically use the standard model w/ light black. The violet ink model is intended for color proofing applications.

I know the ink prices have been kicked around more then just a little, but.. $1195 for the P900 and $1795 for the P5000, only $600 difference and it is twice the printer quality.
Then comes the ink P900 is .84 per ml and the P5000 ink is .45, almost half the cost.
 If you use a 1000ml of ink a year the savings with the P5000 is $390 just in 1 year. 2 years your savings are $780 and you have paid for the upgrade to the P5000 just in ink savings.

I agree with egbert but try to fine a P5000 to buy. Every place I've looked says it's on backorder and has for months.

I appreciate what you say but I ended up with the P900 and am perfectly satisfied. We are low volume printers - hobby not business - so the higher ink costs are not that much of a thing. Most important, I printed a photo on the P900 that I had printed a few weeks ago on a 7900 and the two were indistinguishable. Good enough for me!
