DJI DNG files in Lightroom
« on: June 18, 2021, 12:57:08 pm »

Whilst it's nice that even 6.14 will handle the raw files from DJI's latest drones, I'm a bit puzzled about how colour calibration is being handled with these files.
I know that some raw file formats have lens calibration settings(profiles) built in, no problem with that, but I've not come across files that have colour calibration files embedded into them.
In the develop module's Camera Calibration panel; Profile = Embedded with no option to change to another profile.
I'm not convinced that the colour calibration that's baked into the file is as good as it could be. Anyone know what's going on or any workaround to assign or replace the embedded file with a custom profile ?

Maybe I'll just need to work these files in Capture One which doesn't seem to use any embedded data and seems to give better results at it's defaults.

Are these "true" raw DNG's or perhaps linear DNGs? Profile = Embedded seems to imply not a fully raw DNG?

My Pentax caneras after the K100 had embedded profiles and DNG could be used as their native file format

From the info I can easily get at; they do have full mosiac data, but beyond that I don't know.
The complexities of the differences of DNG files aren't something I've had to concern myself with in the past.

To a large extent I guess I'm stuck with what gets written to the card and I'll just need to build a custom preset for LR import, but it's not ideal.

Are you using the latest version of LR / ACR? That was a limitation of old versions.

In regards to the nature of the file, yes they are true raw (you can check it with a program like RawDigger).

6.14 as in the first post. It opens the files OK, it's just the embedded colour calibration that doesn't seem well handled.
