How do folks here feel about editing/retouching on high resolution monitors?

Personally I find them less than optimal, preferring larger pixels for post work. Admittedly much depends on the pixel count of the files.

Display, of course, is an entirely different matter.

I'm using high resolution monitors for ages (Retina Macbooks, NEC PA322UHD and PA311D) - since I get used to hires I can't even stand blurred, normal monitors. I get perfect match with prints and smartphones/tablets that most people use to watch images on the internet galleries etc.

My post had nothing at all to do with matching prints or devices.

I prefer traditional "low-res" monitors for retouching for the same reason.  I like to see the pixels.  I can tolerate the high-res screen of my MacBook Pro if I remember that 200% is really 100%, but it's annoying and I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it given the choice.  My workhorse monitor is an NEC PA 27" at 1440x2560.
