V850 Pro Options frozen

I'm in the middle of a huge 8x10 scanning operation and without warning, I cannot change the preview settings,  which are frozen on Reflective an Document table.     The scanner will do a document, but nothing else.  Driving me crazy

1) I'd check the cable connecting the base unit with the cover unit.
2) I experienced strange behaviour with a 3 m USB cable. No problems after I changed to 1 m.

Thanks for this Michael.  I had two problems with the machine -- one being a black line appearing on the full length of the image. This my tech friend solved by cleaning out the dust.  He had no problem with the frozen menu -- i had taken the scanner to his lab.  So its obviously related to my MacPro somehow.   I will try the cable -- others have mentioned this in connection with other epson printers.
