My four year old Canon Pro-2000 is beginning to throw printhead errors. This is not unreasonable - the head is at least semi-consumable, and I've had the printer for quite a while and run a lot of paper through it.
Assuming that I can't keep fixing it by turning it on and off (which is working so far, but the rumor is that these errors get more frequent), the major dealers (B&H, Adorama, etc.) all seem to have the head at $675. There are third-party sellers on Amazon listing it a couple hundred dollars cheaper (eBay, too - but Amazon seems the more reliable of those two). Does anyone know if those are legitimate? Several of them list "fulfillment by Amazon", which means I would be almost certain to get something, probably even something that resembles a Canon printhead.
Are the cheaper heads from largely anonymous sellers likely to be counterfeit heads? Are they likely to be oddly imported, possibly without a warranty? The printer is long out of warranty, but, as I understand it, putting in a new head triggers a new one year warranty on the head (and the rest of the machine rarely breaks). It might be worth paying the extra for the head warranty, or it might not. It's certainly worth it if the cheaper head is a counterfeit...
