Fancier equipment now, but the same characters that showed up at Sports Car Club of America amateur races when I was photographing them roughly 60 years ago. 
Never a lack of opportunity for interesting people at a racetrack for sure! Usually I've been in the cars teaching, but they're just too fast for beginner drivers to handle, IMHO, and advanced drivers, well, they can handle it, except when they can't, and then the results are pretty bad.
