Joshua Tree - on iPhone
« on: April 11, 2021, 04:13:07 pm »

I've been more and more impressed with what the new phones can do. Half of my shots during a recent trip were on the iPhone, because it does a very good job with real time HDR of tricky light. It also does a very good job with low light handheld if you are not looking for detail but atmosphere.
Yes, the detail is not the best and sometimes the transitions are rough but for small prints and web many times it's just good enough with much less effort than it would take to do it with the better cameras and computer.

Excellent, Armand! In particular, I like the way you isolated your subject. I've been working on a series as well; sometimes with great frustration. It ain't the camera, it's the person behind it that matters! Yours is one of the best illustrations of that axiom I've seen. Envious.

Very impressive set, Armand. Your seeing was excellent, and your assistant (the iPhone) managed the actual takes very well.

Thank you David, Eric, John and Francois!

It's my second time there and I visited places that I knew before, so that made it somehow easier. I do have shots with better cameras that I'll eventually get to, but I'm starting to understand even better why many people completely forego a full blown camera.
If they upgrade the telephoto on the iPhone Pro Max to be a little more than 65 (a 90 equiv or so would be even better) with a little more sharpness as the current one is quite lacking, good for portraits I guess but less for landscape, there is even less reason to get something more than a phone. While we are at the lenses the corners on the 13 mm equiv are quite terrible but when you start that wide you have room to crop.
