Epson P-800 and 0X14040 Error
« on: February 18, 2021, 06:11:14 pm »

The second Epson P800 Surecolor sent back in 5 years because of this error. Epson was nice (my printer was 7 days out of warranty but after begging and talking to the "supervisor", they are kind enough to send me a refurbished one. Not feeling so confident with the P800 anymore. This one is only warrantied for 30 days. I liked it because of the roll and I'm wondering what a comparable printer might be (I know Canon Pro1000)...are there others?

Have you read this?Epson Printer Error Code:0x1404

I bought my P800 on October 25, 2015 after owning the 3800 and then the 3880 which both died. Today, December 28, 2016, my P800 showed the Printer Error Code:0x1404. I called the Epson Customer Service number at 800-463-7766 and was referred by a foreign call center to 562-276-7272 where a helpful individual named Ion told me my warranty had run out on November 22, 2016, about one month ago. After walking me through the obvious troubleshooting steps of checking for jammed paper, stuck heads, unplugging and shutting off, the P800 did not correct the error. Ion went off-line and when he came back on-line, he said the likely cause was a faulty ink pump. The next part is painful but informative. I bought a new P800. As I was moving the old P800 to my car, I dropped it and it broke into a bunch of pieces. So I went about setting up the new P800 with the ink cartridges from the old P800. Guess what? I got the same error message, 0x1404, and the new P800 would not initialize. I changed out the ink cartridges for the ones that came with the new printer and shazaam, no error message! The cause was either a faulty ink cartridge or an ink cartridge from the 3880 that I may have installed in the old P800 and that is no longer accepted by the P800.

Dan,

Thanks an amazing tale.  I doubt most would have figured out what you learned the hard way.

Yes, I've read it could be the ink cartridges. I had extras, so I removed the ones I had just put in with newer ones, and still had that problem.  The service guy said that error covers a lot of things, not just dealing with ink. He made it sound like more of a "general" code, but perhaps he didn't know.

I got the error code ox1404 after installing a new ink cartridge, Photo black PK. After exhausting
epson, and luminous suggestions I was freaking, My printer is past warranty. I spoke with friends with
like printers but they suggested the things I already tried. I finally noticed a small crack on the side the cartridge, I was thinking that could be why the pump seemed to be sucking air.  Replaced the cartridge cleaned the heads. I'm back in business. It was a good day.
