Spectraview II won't recognize device
« on: January 28, 2021, 11:48:06 am »

After updating to Mac Catalina OS, Spectraview II will not recognize the X- Rite sensor.  I updated the software and have tried other USB ports with no luck.  Am I still supported?  I'm using a NEC PA272w.

You may want to uninstall and reinstall SpectraView. If that doesn't work, you may want to chat with NEC support. They, especially Kira, have been very helpful for me in the past.

Specifically what X-rite instrument?
The i1 Display Pro runs just fine on not only Catalina but Big Sur equally well with 1.1.41 of SpectraView.

Andrew,  I'm using an X-Rite eye-one display 2.  I went ahead reinstalled the latest software for Intel Macs, but the device cannot be detected.

That should be supported so it sounds like a USB issue, device issue perhaps. Got another Mac you can test it on?
These devices, many older than yours, are still supported:

• GretagMacbethEye-OneDisplayV1
• X-Rite/GretagMacbethEye-OneDisplay V2
• X-Rite/GretagMacbethEye-OneMonitor, Eye-One Pro.

When it's plugged in, what is shown in System Info (the item below may look a bit different as it's Big Sur):

Yes, I just did.  My old MDSVSENSOR is no longer compatible with OS Catalina because it is 32 bit and not 64. I hope I'm not misquoting him.    I am being sent a list of compatible sensors and will purchase a new one.  NEC tech support was a joy to use.

Makes absolutely no sense, I'd check this again! You've got a 64-bit savvy application in SpectraView. The hardware is the hardware. Further, the sensor IS listed in the latest manual as being supported.
Be aware that NEC just became NEC/Sharp, and I'm not sure whoever you spoke with is up to speed. I can ping the  product manager directly (IF he's still there, we haven't talked in a few months) and ask.

IF you need one, just get yourself an i1 Display Pro. Also, depending on the age of your old sensor, and the kinds of filters used, might be a good investment, the newer X-rite Colorimeters filters are far more stable and there are more available depending on display technology. IF you get the NEC branded i1-Display, it will ONLY work with SpectraView which is good to consider if you'll calibrate other displays.

Thank you Andrew.  I'll look for an i1 Display Pro.  I just want it for my NEC monitor.  I don't bother trying to calibrate my Mac Book Pro.

If you're sure you'll only use it on the NEC, get their branded version which cost less (but does less in that it's only going to work on that one display system). If you think you may use it in the future on another non SpectraView, might consider the extra expense. Otherwise they two are identical.

I pinged the product manager, just got this back (and indeed, my list needs to be updated from a newer PDF or better, the read me shown below, sorry). You will need a new Colorimeter or stick with an older OS as outlined below:

We had to drop support for the “teardrop” shaped i1DisplayV1 and V2 (and NEC variants) in 2018 because we had to move to 64 bit apps and X-Rite doesn’t have a 64 bit SDK. We keep a “legacy” version for those who need support on old macOS versions.

Complete details and list of sensors are in the README. Here are the details:

Version 1.1.41.00 – build 200508 – May 8, 2020
Release Notes

New 64-bit Build

SpectraView is now a 64-bit application. Due to the requirements for 64-bit applications, the minimum supported macOS version is now 10.12 and support for the X-Rite i1Display V2 sensor has been discontinued. A legacy 32-bit build of this application's version 1.1.39 is available if support for Mac OS X 10.7 - 10.11 or the X-Rite i1Display V2 sensor is required.

Supported Color Sensors

SpectraView II supports the following color sensors:

    Datacolor Spyder3
    Datacolor Spyder4
    Datacolor Spyder5
    Datacolor SpyderX
    NEC MDSVSENSOR3
    NEC SpectraSensor Pro
    Photo Research PR-655, PR-670, PR-680, PR-730 and PR-740 Spectroradiometers.
    X-Rite ColorMunki
    X-Rite i1Display Pro / X-Rite i1Display Pro Plus
    X-Rite i1Monitor
    X-Rite i1Pro
    X-Rite i1Pro2
    X-Rite i1Pro3 / X-Rite i1Pro3 Plus
    X-Rite i1Studio

Note:

The X-Rite ColorMunki Display device introduced in mid-2011 and sold as the "ColorMunki Create" bundle is not supported.
The X-Rite i1Display Studio device introduced in 2019 is not supported.

Revision History

V1.1.38: August 15 2018

    Added support for P243W, EA271Q, EA271U and EA241WU.
Discontinued support for the Datacolor Spyder2 color sensor.
Discontinued support for the X-Rite i1Display V1 and V2 color sensors.
Added support for the X-Rite i1Studio color sensor.
