Epson P7000 Technical Support-Canada?
« on: January 25, 2021, 12:21:44 pm »

Hello all,

About a week ago I noticed a rather disturbing issue at the bottom of the LK channel.  I ran 4 cleaning cycles throughout the day with at least an hour between the cleanings.  Unfortunately there was no positive outcome from that.  The next morning I ran another cycle which showed the same issue, although some of the nozzles had returned, but others had disappeared.  I got in touch with "Inkjet Mall" and ordered their Piezo Flush kit with the syringe and swabs.  I also downloaded the video about how to go about using the Flush Kit to clean the Capping Station, Flushing Box and the Head itself.  I managed to get that done and then ran a cleaning cycle.  No difference at all, so I repeated the cleaning procedure later in the day.  I also ran a Heavy/Power cycle the next morning, but again no positive results.  That was the first time I've ever had to use the Heavy/Power cleaning on any of the Epson printers I've owned (SP-7600, SP-9900 and now the SC-P7000).  I again checked in to the Inkjet Mall site and sent a support email.  The reply asked for the nozzle check.  I did two checks on two days and sent the scans, but have never heard again from the person I was communicating with initially.  At this point I imagine I'm looking at a new Print Head and a $2,200 bill Canadian.

Now to my question.  Is Decision 1 still doing the Epson maintenance work here in Canada?  Back in early 2016 I got in touch with a tech who knew everything about wide format printers from all of the major manufacturers.  Unfortunately I have not been able to find him again. If anyone knows of a tech who has experience with these printers I'd be very much like to get in touch.  I'm located near Toronto, ON.

It's still Decision 1.

Is your warranty expired? Have you thought about replacing it yourself?

Gary you could investigate the Epson One-Time replacement service Plan (cost is $995.00 USD) that covers the Epson SureColor P-Series 24-inch or Epson Stylus Pro 7900 Printer here

The Term & Conditions state "This Plan covers the Epson SureColor P-Series 24-inch or Epson Stylus Pro 7900 Printer for one-time, on-site repair services for a Primary Issue if used in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico."

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reminder.  Three days ago that approach went through my mind, but for some reason I thought it was only for the 9900.  Since then I've been spending my days trying to find a fix, but with no success.  I will definitely look into the Plan and be in touch with Epson as well.  If it includes the installation I could perhaps save about $700.00. When I had a new head installed in my 9900 in early 2016 the bill was $2,200 Canadian.  This one would be approximately $1.4000 Canadian.  The Head for the P7000 is basically the same as the 9900 Head, so I assumed the total replacement would be the same as the 9900 Head replacement.  So YES -- I will be looking into the offer from Epson asap.

Thanks again for getting my mind back on track Brian.  I'll let you know how it goes.  :)  ;D

One more thought.  Just wanted to let you know what I've been up against for the past week +.  Here are a couple of LK nozzle checks, two days apart and after I had completed the manual cleaning procedure with the Piezo Flush solution from Inkjet Mall.  I haven't yet received a reply from the tech to whom I sent these scans, so I'm kind of on my own here.  Not the first time, but hopefully the last!

I've also been thinking that the head has started to de laminate, although this issue happened over night.  I imagine Epson will want to see the nozzle checks as well and then make their decision about how to proceed, if at all.  Below are the two nozzle check scans I sent to Inkjet Mall, but with no reply.

That doesn't look like de-lamination. Have you tried windex?

Hello Paul,

In reference to Windex, I assume you mean directly on the Print head.  However, for many years we've been warned about the eventual negative results of using Windex on a print head.  I did read recently on another forum that if one is using Windex on the Capping Station one should perhaps use the Piezo Flush afterward to clear out the Windex.  That procedure seems like a good way to go about it, put I'm still very reluctant about using Windex on the print head itself.

Yes that was my suggestion. Directly on the head. I assume you have been using the piezoflush with a syringe and injecting it through the clogged channel? There hasn't really been any "proof" that windex damages a head, just opinions that it might. If you're about to dump $$$ into a head replacement might as well give it a final try with windex. In my experience it does a better job of breaking up dry ink than piezoflush alone. I had a really bad clog on a p400 and even after a week of running piezoflush through the channel it wasn't until I used windex that it finally cleared. Out of precaution I followed the windex with piezoflush to make sure there wasn't any residual windex left.

Once you do get it repaired - I would invest in a set of flush cartridges from inkjetmall and run a few initial fills with piezoflush anytime you plan on letting it sit for more than a few weeks.
