Fast Medium Format Lenses ARRI DNA 65 Lenses
« on: January 17, 2021, 08:09:31 am »

Hi there,

I recently shot a short on the ARRI Alexa 65 and I could get my hands on the ARRI DNA 65 Prime Lenses.
As I know from Arri they are rehouse photo lenses.

ARRI Rental Prime DNA T1.6 - T2.8
28 / 35 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 80 / 110 / 150 / 200 mm

what is interesting: they have sometimes 2 versions of a specific focal length.

35mm T3.5. (Mamiya Rehouse or Pentax)
35mm T2.3 . Origin lens unknown

45mm T2.8. (Mamiya Rehouse or Pentax)
45mm T2.3 Origin of the lens unknown

50mm T2.0Origin of the lens unknown

60mm T2.0 Origin of the lens unknown

65mm T1.6 Origin of the lens unknown

80mm T1.9 ( Mamiya Rehouse)

I shot this with the DNA 65mm @T1.6 @ ISO 1250 on the Arri Alexa 65:

Its a beautiful lens. And as you can see there are no chromatic ap. around the flame at all.

So if someone know the origin of these fast medium Format lenses and could identify them that would be great.

thx

Intriguing question! My first thought was rehoused 35mm T/S lenses, but all of them are way slower than T2.0. Don't you think they could have commissioned lens manufacturers to make custom designs for them?

Im not sure, maybe you are right.

they are all breathing like photo lenses and are very light weight. When Arri would built new lenses they would be very heavy and sophisticated.
but maybe. but its for sure an old lens design.

it would be so nice to get fast lenses for medium format photography.

but its interesting that these lenses are not big at all, not bigger than the normal Blue-ring lens from Schneider when it comes to the glass. the housing is of course bigger for the focus Assistent
