Black Canyon Black ice

It's the best ice. We go to great lengths to find smooth clear ice and today was a successful day of ice hunting in the Black.
It's a 1000' vertical 7 mile round trip just to get to the ice. A really fun adventure.
I found a fisheye worked well for capturing the grand scale of this place.

Thanks and yeah, that is always the goal but we prepare for the worst too with life jackets, spikes (to pull yourself back out), and dry clothes.
I have not gone through the ice since I was a kid in Michigan with none of that safety stuff.

Heading back out soon to look for more accessible ice.

Yeah there are a lot of Michiganders around. Many who are outdoor enthusiasts too.
My theory is Michigan gave us a taste of outdoor adventure but we wanted more and to have it more accessible so we came here.
That's what I did anyway. I'm a huge fan of public lands.
