Is it worth anything?

I have an Epson 9900 printer that is in need of a new head. i don't do enough printing any longer to justify the cost of replacement or repair. Would it be worth anything to anyone?

Maybe any unopened ink, but probably not the printer itself. When my 9900 died I was able to at least get rid of it for free by posting a "free to good home" ad on Craigslist. After that I switched to Canon and haven't looked back.

I hear ya. I have 6 almost full inks and the rest are less than 1/4 - but all open. From what I understand, it's about $2000 to replace the head. Other than that it works great. I'm just getting some banding in the blacks.

$2,000 for the head + $1,000 for the installation. And after all of that you get a whopping 90 day warranty.

I had the head on my 9900 replaced in September and it's working even better than when I first got it second-hand ten years ago. The last couple of print jobs were a struggle with the printing starting off fine, then banding half-way through a print. I looked on eBay and only one of many sounded half-way decent. But it's the removal and disposal that was too daunting to wish to contemplate.

I gave a call to my expert an hour away and two weeks later with the head replaced, the printer was back to nearly new and working better than ever. He told me that the head was a new design and more reliable, less issues with streaking and less cleaning to do and so far he's right!. The cost was less than finding a working second-hand 9900 on eBay let alone driving for hours to transport one then dealing with finding four friends with strong backs to pull one up the steps and another back down.

With the 9900 being my only color printer the cost and the replacement was worth it.

I was another one of those that replaced my 9900 head at full price. It was before the new service plan became available.
$3100 and 5 years later it still prints like a charm. Got my money's worth out of it and then some.
I refill with OEM inks and do buy K3 inks. My going rate is .05 per ml. I have not purchased any in quite some time with 10,000 ml on the shelf.
Down to about half that so if interested give me a shout.

I used the one time service a few months ago on my 44" Surecolor P8000.  New head for the price in the link Brian posted, $1395.  US only though I think, despite the fine print.

Part of my problem is that I don't do as much printing any longer. I've closed my studio and pretty much retired from professional photography so I don't have the volume to keep a printer like this going any longer - likely less than one print a month. I'd probably use more ink in just keeping it from clogging than I would use in making prints. I'm debating whether to get a 17" printer like the P900 for my personal stuff and just outsourcing the larger canvas pieces.

Maybe you can work out a deal with someone to get it fixed at their cost while they cover the cost of taking it off your hands. Plus maybe a $100. That way it doesn't end up in a landfill for a few more years.
