Epson P10000 Discontinued

I did not realize that this unit was discontinued (per B&H).

Does this mean the the P9570 is the new P10000?
(as fast with more capability)

Hello,

Yes, Epson discontinued the P10000 and the P9570 is the replacement basically.  Faster, better quality and updated features.  It's a great printer in general especially with the ability to do hands-on head cleaning now; but still not user replaceable.  Same head technology and uses the newer inks (PRO12).

You know, what myths me about this Printer is, my Dealer has been trying to off load a used one, for some time now.

But, I remember him saying, the Customer could not get it to Print a GPO (Gov't Printing Office) Control Strip, cleanly. Then I saw a Rip that had a setting to the effect of, 'you have to use a SINGLE head for 'Fine Art' mode -- Think Accuracy. And lastly the deal with having to use a VERY large Top Margin, else the Printer, by design, would Band.

It seen like Epson Doubled the Heads/Nozzles, but at a VERY big cost; seeming to make the Printer ideal for SPEED but sucking for Accuracy.

When the vast majority of the PROOFING and Fine Arts markets, want [and was expecting] SPEED & Accuracy

Is my read on this Accuracy?

My understanding is that the P10000 and the new P9570 use the same print head, so not sure if the P9570 would be more 'accurate' then the P10000

I am not qualified to comment on the P9570, or make any kind of authoritative judgements on any printers, but my experience is that one of the things I really like about the P10000 is that it has the option to print really fast (using the 'double head' idea where the staggered nozzles start printing in two places simultaneously in parallel lines) but it also can print 'high quality' (max res and uni_D) and I print at high quality 90% of the time. My understanding is that when printing at 'high-quality' the head acts as a 'single' print head and just starts at the leading edge and progresses from there. I have had no issues with 'accuracy' in this regard.

I have p20000 and 9570 and the detail is excellent, certainly better than the previous generations, provided you align the head and use proper settings.  Whatever issues i might have with these machines, the print heads are certainly not one. Accuracy is certainly there.

What issues have you had with these new Epsons?

I’ve read a lot of posts from people complaining about difficulty balancing gamut with correct ink limiting when using fiber gloss media. Have you had issues creating custom media settings or over inking?

Are you using a rip, and if so is using one mandatory in controlling ink limits? Are they finicky in that regard?

I think you are the FIRST person EVER to explain how that 'double head thing' is 'actually' working. If you look at it, the way you've explained, it's' actually not a bad thing, at all.

You get the SPEED (double head/rows) when you need it and you still get the QUALITY (single head/rows). At long as you KNOW the conditions and sacrifices of each; and when and how to use them.

P20000, yes. Good accuracy. Better than 11880. 
P95xx certainly not, i switched back for the P9000 and never looked back . P9000 still the gold standard.

I've talked myself into buying a P20000 (complementing a P9570 & IPF8300).

When you need larger then 44" or a FULL 60", it's a goto. But I just hope a 64" version of the 9570 isn't 'right around the corner'.

Doesn't it seem like the P20000, is due for a refresh?
