Bad suction fan on ipf8300

I have an error message that relates to a bad suction fan on the Canon 8300.
Has anyone had this issue?  I’ve never heard of it.

I’ve made arrangements to have it serviced by a local guy who is authorized by Canon but I don’t know what to expect.

You should expect him to REPLACE that fan. So that the message doesn't come back after you've Paid him and He's gone.

Sometimes the Mechanic will RESET the code that makes your engine light come on; only for it to come BACK ON, after you have driven a bit. That light will stay off AFTER they FIX the Problem.

Thanks. According to the repair manual , it says 1. check the fan wiring to see if it’s loose. Or 2.Replace the fan 3. And if those don’t solve it, replace the circuit board.

He’s going to order and bring a fan and replace that. I hope that works because I would rather keep this printer than buy a new Canon or Epson. It’s been the most trustworthy and durable printer I’ve ever had, and I’ve had about 10 big ones of various brands. I’d like to keep it another year or so. Thankfully this guy lives close by.

I'm right there with you Brother. I have and LOVE my 8300. I brought a P9750 (latest & greatest and all) but that 8300 has just been Rock Solid. It amazes me still, how long it can sit and just be ready to go, when it's time to Print.

If that message is there BUT THE SECTION is FINE. I'd let him replace that fan. And if that doesn't fix it. I'd just keep printing. I would not want to fix it bad enough to go mucking around with main boards and all that. For all you know that could introduce its' own Problems.

(That's if the Section is actually functioning [but the Printer is just throwing the message])

I'd put in some light paper and turn the Section to high and if you notice, be it visually or audibly that that Suction is excessive, as it should be with a High setting and light paper, then I wouldn't worry about it.

No you can’t print with it with the error message on. It comes up when you load the media. It’s inoperable at that point.

I’m hearing the suction as I normally do but I can’t print because it’s stopped. Everything looks clean back in there from what I can see.

How do you adjust the suction of the fan? I’ve never heard of that. Is there some way to go into a service mode to do that?

I don’t want to replace this printer it’s so solid and great with better inks than the new ones and the new Epsons and HP seem to have all kinds of headaches. With this machine it’s always ready and quite fast and precise  at  bi directional, and no head strikes on problem media or any issues ever regarding media thickness settings and stuff like that.

There is the option of adjusting suction in the MCT, but I don't recall seeing off as an option (I'm now away from my printer for the next almost two weeks , but it might be there for the very thin sheet materials?

I'm amazed none of the problem materials caused head strikes - our old 8300 could plough through alpha cellulose papers, every bit as well as the 9800 or our current 8400.
