Blatant misdirection. But, I'll play along this time. Which of them knowingly misled their constituents about the risk they faced from the virus and the ease with which it spread in public statements to them?
What misdirection.  I never said that. what happens is that Governors open up venues to help their economies knowing that would increase the spread. But they're disparate to get their state  economies going again. Then when infections increase, they say "oops" and shut them down again.

He knew how deadly the virus was and how easily it would spread. He minimized those facts to the American public who were at risk. Would you like to listen to a recording of him telling Bob Woodward that fact?

Governors know how deadly the virus is also.  Yet they open their states trying to get their economies back as well.

I am speechless.

Speaking of creepy people, Trump will make his first public appearance since the Capitol riots in a few days at CPAC, a conservative fan fair, in Orlando, Florida. In listing his co-presenters, CPAC makes it sound more like an arraignment than a conference.

"This year's conference is drawing a slew of potential Republican presidential candidates including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, South Dakota Sen. Kristi Noem, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Rick Scott."

https://www.politico.com/news/2021/02/20/trump-to-speak-at-cpac-470443

Apparently Mike Pence turned down an invitation to join Trump and his band of, dare I say, deplorables at CPAC. Maybe he thought they might hang him.

Speaking of Texas, the thing I remember from when I lived in Texas is that Texans call rednecks goat ropers. I don't know if that is still true, but that was the case when I was growing up and Texas was its own country. The funny thing is during all those years I never saw a goat.

Did you know that Texas has its own version of school textbooks that are different than the textbooks used everywhere else in the United States? None of the textbooks used everywhere else devote anywhere near the time and attention required for a student to fully appreciate the greatness of Texas.  Using their own textbooks is not a panacea though. While watching everyone in Texas freeze to death on television this week, I remembered from my fourth grade Texas history class that Texas was its own country from 1836 to 1845. Turns out my memory was faulty and Texas was its own country all the way through to February 19, 1846. Texans are sticklers for that kind of thing.

By the way, fourth grade and Texas history class are synonyms. Sometimes even when it the weather was nice, they wouldn't let us out for P.E. They kept us inside and made us learn square dancing. If they make Ted Cruz's kids quarantine, his kids may become permanently scarred psychology if they miss square dancing lessons. Maybe in private schools they teach ballet instead of square dancing so his kids may dodge a bullet. That's what I am hoping. Maybe during Ted Cruz's kids' quarantine they will be home schooled in ballet. I hear they bought Snowflake a tutu when they were in Cancun. Who knew there would be a tutu store for dogs in Cancun?

We learned square dancing when I was twelve.  In The Bronx.  Go figure.  Every Friday night they would have square dancing for all the school kids and I would hurry up there so I could dance with Madelaine who I was crazy about.  My first love. I wouldn't let her dance with anyone else, much less a Texan. Of course, at that age, we didn't do anything more than square dance.

Customer billed sixteen large for power by “Griddy”, his electricity provider, wiping out his savings.

Hey, <insert usual suspects here> How’s this for capitalism and “free” markets ?

Still all-in for deregulation as the key to prosperity?

Free markets are about letting competition decide winners and losers among products, industries, and companies.  It means the government stays out of these things, only responsible for providing fairness, an even playing field for everyone,  and a way to redress disputes through a court system.  It doesn't mean there's no regulation.  In most states I'm aware, public utilities are regulated, so this can't happen.  If it did, what were the regulators doing?  I don't think the utilities would be able to keep huge increases like these without proper notification before the fact.

In my state of New Jersey, we can select our utility company and shop rates around.  Every year, my local township finds the cheapest utility rates that they purchase for township electricity usage - like street lights, traffic lights, etc.  Part of the deal is to allow residents to use their lower electricity rates they negotiated rather than the local utility's.  So every year I change to my township's company they selected and my rates are the lowest.  There is a small charge to the utility that provides the power lines into my house.  But the consumption charges for KWH are with the cheaper company.

Of course, with this situation in Texas, I wonder if there are any clauses that would in effect do the same thing that happened in Texas?  I think I better check.   ???

Well, at least Texas doesn't have state income taxes.  That savings pays for a lot of electricity.

Since starting today, you're going to start checking: Specifically how much savings?
https://smartasset.com/taxes/states-with-no-income-tax
The Texas Constitution forbids personal income taxes. Instead of collecting income taxes, Texas relies on high sales and use taxes. When paired with local taxes, total sales taxes in some jurisdictions are as high as 8.25%. Property tax rates in Texas are also high. In fact, only a handful of states have higher property tax rates.

Interestingly, Texas leads the country with wind-produced electricity, 23% of the state's generation.  You'd think with all their oil, they would be the least. Apparently, they don't even use oil.

So?  You've stated what we already know.  Thank you, Captain Obvious.

I've reminded you several times:

Except in Nature, There's no such thing as a free market.

"Free" markets are a rightist conceit.  A fallacy.  They don't exist.

They're even absent in your own family.  By your reports, your wife is the market regulator.

How do they divert the cheaper electricity on the wires to your township?

You're trying to make it seem like it's all or nothing. I never said that.  The fact is, the more you have free markets, the better it is.

Now when it comes to certain infrastructure, like roads, utilities, etc., there has to be more regulation than let's say cameras where we don't need government interference.  It's best for producers of cameras and buyers; free markets work out what's best for everyone. It's the most productive way of doing things.  Government regulation in these markets just hurts everyone and raises prices.  In fact, it was the deregulation of New Jersey's electricity market, that allows me to shop around and get the lowest price.  Same thing happened when they deregulated the airline business.

Is that why airline travel became so awful, btw, and I'm talking pre-Covid here? Hell, I'd rather pay a bit more and not be treated like cattle going to market.

How do they divert the cheaper electricity on the wires to your township?
I don't know for sure.  But I believe the producers are basically supplying their electricity into a common grid.  So everyone is just dipping into the same grid and the electricity is like a pool.  So you might not get the electricity from the provider you pay.  Then the money is adjusted in the accounting books among the various suppliers.

My bill for example comes from the utility that provides the wires.  There are two charges on the bill.  One for them.  It's a fixed charge for their wires, the power poles, etc.  Then there's a separate section in the bill for the actual consumption charge per KWH.  The two are added and my payment goes to the first utility company.  They pay the supplier for the actual electricity.  Frankly, it could be someone else's.  But like I say, it's like a common well of water that producers dump their water in and the users consume it commonly.  At least, I think this is the procedure.  I'm sure the Truth Brigade here will correct me if I made a mistake. :)
