You left out that she was seen without a mask outdoors. I don't know if that would qualify as idiotic. You decide. Oh wait, you already have.
Seems he had help from Fox “News” but missed the sensible part:

Quote
Fox News Host Stunned by Colleague’s Defense of AOC
“I don’t see why she can’t go to Florida and have a good time,” Charles Gasparino said, blowing up the Fox News talking point.
Darn!
Quote
But more to the point, he added, “This is a Fox News alert. I am going to support AOC on this. And here’s why: She was outside!”

One event was an assault on the nation's Capitol and its legislators with the goal of overturning an election. That event ended an over 220-year tradition of the peaceful transfer of power. The efforts to promote lies about the election continue.

The other was a nationwide protest movement over systemic racism. Where violence, looting, or arson occurred it was all over the news at the time. The fact is that there were many more protests that were peaceful than there were protests with violence or criminal activity.

They're called a false equivalence because they're not equivalent and they're false.

https://www.radcliffe.harvard.edu/news-and-ideas/black-lives-matter-protesters-were-overwhelmingly-peaceful-our-research-finds

Black Lives Matter Protesters Were Overwhelmingly Peaceful, Our Research Finds

Only 3.7% of the protests involved property damage or vandalism. Some portion of these involved neither police nor protesters, but people engaging in vandalism or looting alongside the protests.

In short, our data suggest that 96.3% of events involved no property damage or police injuries, and in 97.7% of events, no injuries were reported among participants, bystanders or police.

These figures should correct the narrative that the protests were overtaken by rioting and vandalism or violence.

Such claims are false. Incidents in which there was protester violence or property destruction should be regarded as exceptional – and not representative of the uprising as a whole.

3,7% sounds minor until you breakout what that really means.

Widespread vandalism and looting during BLM protests will cost the insurance $2 BILLION after violence erupted in 140 cities in the wake of George Floyd's death
-Unrest in wake of George Floyd's death resulted in record insurance payouts
-A total of between $1-2billion in claims have been filed due to property damage
-Riots, arson, and looting took place in Minneapolis and spread to 140 cities
-Six people died in the rioting and National Guard was called up in 21 states
-Recent unrest took place in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after police shot Jacob Blake
-Kenosha fire chief says rioting and unrest resulted in $11million in damage

Here in Durham, NC, a BLM protest turned nasty as dark fell, with vandalism and fires. Police looked at surveillance videos and saw that just before the crap started a group of about a dozen people showed up to join the protest. Many of them were identified as known white supremacists, proud boys, and the like. They pretended to be legitimate protesters while setting fires and breaking windows. All to give BLM a bad rep. And some sapheads bought it.
Oh please, Peter.  Look at the videos of the looting, arson, rioting and breaking into stores.  They were not white people.

Why do you assume that just because you didn't know about it means that the press was burying the information?

That loonie leftie media is forever burying stuff you want to read about, it seems. But then when they do publish stories, you call it fake and biased. You're very difficult to please.

I follow the news.  The Democratic and left media have an agenda and write for their main followers.  Much of the news is biased. You have to read between the lines.

The republican and right media is also biased but their influence is 25% or less of the liberal media.

Alan, you're convinced of a large scale conspiracy by the press and academia to manipulate everything to conform to leftist principles.

1) Why would they do this? What drives them to adhere to this conspiracy so diligently?

2) How could they convince all of the famously irascible press and the academics to fall in line?

Further to our discussion on gerrymandering Republicans is this one about Democratic gerrymandering in New York State. As I said, both parties play these games.

Odds of Gerrymandering Grow in New York as Redistricting Panel Falters
Hopelessly gridlocked, the commission voted to send a pair of proposals to Albany, but Democratic lawmakers are increasingly likely to take over the process.
Eight years after New Yorkers voted to take redistricting out of the hands of politicians, the politicians are poised to wrest it back.

Apparently, Democratic gerrymandering isn't enough in NY State as its senator Schumer, Senate Leader, also from NYS, now wants to lock up national voting to keep Democrats in power forever.  He must really be worried about losing the Senate this year in the midterm elections.  He needs to change the voting rules so they can finagle the vote.

Schumer threatens to change Senate filibuster rules by Jan 17 if Republicans keep blocking voting-rights legislation

Here's a Canadian columnist's view of the current American crisis, https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/u-s-capitol-attack-anniversary-analysis-1.6303070. The link back to the Roman empire is a bit dramatic, but otoh it did happen.

Is there a greater waste of time and energy that the current "culture" war?

The Republic still stands.  Biden took power as scheduled on Jan 20th, 2022 despite Jan 6th and Trump squawking.  Hopefully, the Democrats will lose one of the houses maybe both, in November, so power will be happily divided again in Washington DC between the legislative and executive branches.  They'll be able to do less damage.  US generals have more possibility of marching into Ottawa than marching into Washington.  Our biggest problem is economic.  Fortunately, the BBB bill wasn't passed. If the politicians don't stop finagling with the money supply and spending too much, everyone is going to suffer.

Actually in this case they were. But of course not in every case - and it seems that many times bad actors, regardless of skin color, took a protest as a cover for looting etc. They were not real protesters. Not to say every real protester was goody-two-shoes but the damage done *BY* the protests as opposed to *DURING* the protests has been vastly exaggerated by the right-wing fertilizer machine.

I agree that many protestors were doing just that - protesting peacefully.  But just like what happened on Jan 6th, once people start a demonstration unless there's a heavy police presence, it opens the door and gives excuses to a lot of stupid people who think they can do whatever they want and break the law.  A demonstration protest devolves into a riot where they storm the capital or loot and burn stores.  They turn into a mob.

Also, just as there was a wink and a nod to the demonstrators in Washington, there were wink and nods from politicians who supported anti-police action and doing away with laws against criminality.  This lead to riots and looting and burning. In both cases, illegal acts were encouraged by the powers that be.  It's one of the reasons the crime rates have gone up so dramatically.
