Spoiler alert: it's the business end of a propane outdoor area radiator, useful for enabling outdoor dining with adequate "social distancing" on my stepson's patio now that the weather is turning cooler.

That heater worked surprisingly well. It made a chilly evening quite comfortable for two groups at separate tables. (My wife even claims she got a bit of sunburn from sitting too close to it for too long.)
