Huh.   A cross section of LuLa members are apparently better photographers than Annie Leibovitz.

I'd tend to agree with that, James!

However, unlike Annie, few have the well-known name to command the high end clients to sustain our works as well.

In the mean time, I'd rather be looking at Slobodan's work any day over some of the more famous morphing into new and uncharted directions with much less finesse than him.

Just goes to show how difficult genre landscape is ;)

Thanks - I particularly identify with this quote:

"Being a photographer as long as I’ve been a photographer, you don’t stop seeing, but sometimes you just don’t feel like taking pictures. So it’s not like you don’t see pictures, but you may not take them."

Name one.

If you mean better *landscape* photographers, you should have said so.

Glenn Bartley, for example. He captures his birds in more pleasing and natural poses than Annie. None of the four models in her shot looks cheerful.

I would purchase a Blagojevic landscape before I would put any money down for a Liebowitz.  She should stick to what she knows best though maybe all the financial difficulties are forcing her in a different direction.

She should stick with people shots. Otherwise, she'll be needing a bailout from the government.

Indeed! And have you seen her penguin shot? Way oversaturated with blown highlights. Jeremy Roussak's penguins look more relaxed.

She's been there, done that. Back in 2009-2010 she got sued by creditors for $24 million. I don't remember how she got out of that mess.

She had to auction off the copyright of most of her work.

FYI, she is an asshole on set, routinely throws fits and throws lenses at her staffers heads for petty reasons.  I have yet to meet anyone that enjoys working for her.

Difficult audience.

I saw the article as encouraging people to continue taking photographs in these difficult times: good on her.

The ones I was shooting weren't awed by the presence of a genius.

In Australia we call that the "Tall Poppy Syndrome". If the Olympics gets cancelled we could just award the medals on forum vote.

By "better" do you mean that an organisation that 95% of the population has never heard of has bestowed a plaque, or do you mean they command $12,000 for a session, or just better in their own mind?
If you walk down a street in the US at least and ask people the name of a famous photographer, who do you get? And would it be Ansel Adams over Annie L?

Apparently even though she earnt a lot as a photographer she may not have been good at business. I don't know the details on that.
I also know a guy that was asked to come in and redo a family shoot she did. The customer did not like the style, but that is a personal thing.

Y'all are taking an offhand joke way too seriously :).

No one in the general public is going to say "James Clark - I've heard of that guy - he's a way better photographer than Annie L!"   I think it's great that she's taking images of the world around her right now.  I think it's neat that some of them are landscape photos.  I think the examples of the images shown in the article that happen to be landscape images aren't great, and I think many/most people on this forum have better images in their portfolios that what was shown in the article.  I think many/most people on this forum also have images in their portfolio that are worse than what was shown in the article.
