And I'm not referring to the virus.  I plugged my circa 2003 i1Profiler enabling dongle into my W10 system for the first time in several months, and the pc blue screened.  After googling I found that the 2004 W10 update was incompatible with the dongle driver in i1Profiler 1.8.3.  After searching the XRite website I discovered the latest i1Profiler version had a corrected dongle driver, but it is incompatible with my i1Pro spectro.  Catch 22.

I found no useful info on the XRite website, but did find a solution, two parts:

1. https://www.howto-connect.com/fix-aksdf-sys-page-fault-in-nonpaged-area-bsod-error-windows-10/
has instructions and a download link for deleting the offending aksdf.sys file (and related files) from the pc

All seems to work ok, for a while I thought I was through with profiling, at least with i1Profiler.  I'm (more) disgusted with XRite, they obviously want me to ditch my older equipment and buy the new stuff.

If I understand your post correctly, the equipment they want you to replace is 17 years old? If so, doesn’t that seem like you got your money’s worth? I had to replace my copy of ProfileMaker 5 a number of years ago when an Apple OS upgrade made it inoperable. Time marches on.

That's a shame because PMP5 remains a good profiling solution, and was VERY expensive when purchased.
Why should we have to put up with imposed obsolescence of perfectly good hardware and software for no advantage ?

The equipment I have today is not 17 years old, I have purchased two additional i1Pro units since the beginning.  When XRite acquired Gretag-Macbeth they grandfathered those of us with the enabling dongles so that we had equivalent functionality using i1Profiler.  This was their compensation for not advancing the Profile Maker suite.

I well understand that time marches on.  My gripe with XRite is (1) not continuing to support i1Pro with their recent i1Profiler versions, and (2) knowing of a easy solution to the problem and not providing it on their website.

BTW ProfileMaker still runs ok on my Windows 10 system, although I only use the ancillary programs, not Profile Maker itself.

Considering the lack of updated features for years in iP1, why not just stick with the older version that still support the older Spectro?

I wish XRite would fix the damned bugs. Like how it truncates fractional RGB values when it saves them as a patch set or stores them in a profile but rounds them when you create a tiff file - or just print it. For the most part these errors get lost in printer variations but why increase errors for no good reason at all. At least there's a workaround by always saving RGB patch sets just as soon as new ones are created before doing anything else. Then reload the patch set.

The other thing PM5 has that I1Profiler doesn't is the ability to batch profile creation.
