Phase One X-Shutter remounting program
« on: October 06, 2020, 06:05:17 am »

As of today October 6,2020 the Phase One X_Shutter ( the digital COPAL 0 replacement) that has been exclusive to the the (5) native Phase One XT lens panels has been expanded to include the remounting of most current Schneider and Rodenstock lenses in either the Cambo RS/DS & XT compatible lens panels as well as regular Flat Panels for bellows type camera systems which is excellent news for those who wish to utilize 1/1000 flash sync on set in studio!

Please be advised that since these are not fully integrated native XT lens panels (with the pins for information transfer/control with IQ4) that you will use a special cable to connect the X-Shutter to the IQ4 Back which allows for control of Aperture/Shutter Speed and passing of that EXIF data, there is no recording of X/Y movements like the native XT lens panels offer.

Remounting is available through your Phase One reseller who in turn will send the lens to Cambo NL who has the exclusive on the remounting services. (Digital Transitions has additional information and an easy to use information request form located here, full disclosure I work for DT)

The pricing of remounting a lens that is in a Cambo mount currently (either normal or T/S) is $4,900 plus shipping. This includes the cable that connects to the IQ4 for control of Aperture/Shutter Speed and passing of that EXIF data. This will take approximately 4 weeks

If you have a lens that is naked or in another brands mount (Alpa,Arca, etc) it is priced at $4,900 plus shipping in addition to the cost of the Cambo mount (normal or T/S) and those mounts vary in price from $1,249-$2,129. This will approximately 6-9 weeks.

Also if you are planning to use your XT native mounted lenses on your existing Cambo body, it is recommended you send it in for an update to add a slot to protect the pins from XT mount.

Cambo has the rights to this until March 2021.

Hi Lance,

Thanks for the clear summary.

This is of course very good news, but a couple of questions if you don't mind:
- the only backs compatible with the X-shutter are the IQ4 series?
- what is the technical reason why re-mounting an existing Rodenstock in X-shutter/Cambo mount (say for a lens currently in Arca mount) cannot reach the same level of functionality as a native XT lens?
- what is the functional gap between a native X mount lens and a re-mounted one? Is it only cable going from X-Shutter to back and the capture of X-Y information?
- is there an option to keep a lens in Arca mount and just have the copal mechanical shutter replaced by the X-Shutter?
- if the answer is yes, what is the value of using an XT body vs an Arca one for instance?

Thank you.

Regards,
Bernard
