Using current LR version, and after migrating Catalog and Images to new and larger capacity HD, life has been miserable.
Catalog and all image file maintained on external HD, as they have neon since LR v1. Working the sway for years, upgrading hD as needed when running out of space. Th erect move to larger HD is nothing new for me.
After running out of HD space on prior 6TB drives, each drive representing a redundant backup, I moved Catalog and Image content to new 12TB drives. The drives are formatted to APFS. This method of moving into larger drives is as I've done many times before.
The new 12TB drives are OWC-branded enclosure, and the new drives are connected by either USB 3, or FW 800, depending on the system being used. On each of my 4 Mac machines, various iMac and MBP units, the catalogs work, and then they don't - stating LR has encountered a problem. Attempts to repair catalogs rare work. The unifying feature of the complaint is the new 12TB drives. Makes no difference, near as I can tell, if I'm running a High Sierra system via TW800, or a Catalina USB 3 connection.
Are LR users having difficulty moving to larger capacity drives? Other thought for observations?
