Fuji GFX 50s - convert to B&W? Can it be done? Anyone try it?
« on: September 11, 2020, 08:36:20 am »

My buddy is ranting positive about the Leica M10 mono camera.

I'm not seeing it myself BUT as 90% of my images end up as B&W, got me thinking.
The Leica is a 40MP camera in a system that I think is visually sexy and compact BUT way
behind the GFX 50s for features that I want.

Now my limited reading of the M10 mono; its just a 40MP array with no filter in front of the array and on a small piece of silicon I think.

OK, could one take the 50s and have the filter removed and convert to B&W only?

Anyone done that?
IF so, what shop did the conversion work and will it be compatible with the internal DAC's, etc.

I did find this on the topic:

I would talk to Dan at Maxmax.com as you have in your link... he did my D800 monochrome sensor conversion and I was quite happy with the result

Just left Dan a voice message.
Curious what he'll have to say.

it should be easier than sensors that have PDAF.  The 50s and 50r have contrast only autofocus.

Looks like a $3,500.00 cost/gamble plus the GFX 50s cost that I'm just not up to risking at this time.

Maybe Fuji will take the hint from Leica M10 and come out with a "Naked" 50s to stretch a little more of a
revenue stream from the 50 configuration.  I much prefer it's interface in every way over the GFX 100 I returned.
