There's a massive amount of luck in this kind of thing, Eric. Don't let anyone tell you that's not true. This was a case, though, where I could see the bird coming from a fairly long way off, track him, and decide where I wanted to trip the shutter. That rarely happens. Usually the bird springs up next to you and the best you can do is get the camera up, go bang, chimp, and delete the picture.
