I would really start sourcing a 'used' 8300; you get whatever ink is in the the machine and you can always move your heads over to the new machine (if needed - left to left; right to right)

The expense of testing (ink and maint carts) can become too great.

Because a Technician has to do much trial and error, eliminating different things, the Cost would certainly exceed a used replacement.

Remember, I had the EXACT same problem and that new head fixed it right away.

Thanks everyone for ideas and suggestions, I've decided to pull the proverbial plug on my 8300.

Today I ordered an IPF 4100, should be here next week. Was considering the 2100 since I rarely print wider than 24", but after factoring in the 330ml inks that come with the 4100 (vs 160ml on the 2100) as well as an $800 rebate, the 4100 was actually cheaper.

Cost for the 4100 including tax and lift gate shipping, was a bit under $3400 (after rebate) which includes about $2000 worth of ink. At B&H it can be had for $3200 if the PayBoo card is used, but I wanted to use a credit card that offered warranty extension (PayBoo does not).

Interestingly, I paid about the same for my IPF 8300 eight years ago which included about $2000 worth of ink.

Looking forward to going back to stress free printing.

thx, Dave

Smart choice. Just plug it in and go.
