Lightroom CC update for iOS, iPadOS
« on: August 20, 2020, 11:57:29 am »

Have just read a report on DPreview that an update has deleted permanently presets and images not synced to the cloud.  Yikes, if true, I am glad that I don't use mobile LR, waiting till I get home and use Classic.  I am glad I save the sidecars with the images and backup both images and catalog etc. Sure hope this does not happen to any other Adobe updates that affect local images!!

It seems to relate to LrMobile free version on iOS and only to anything that hadn't been synced. One lost photo is one too many, but it's not a reason for a Classic user to avoid takign advantage of LrMobile.

It is really bad that an update of LR Mobile resulted in deleted photos, however the following advice is as old as computing itself:

- Make sure you have a backup of your data before making any changes or updates

As I understand it, backup is more-or-less irrelevant in this case. The lost photos are those shot in the free version of LrMobile and which had not yet been synced to the cloud.

I refer to backup your phone, you can do it different ways. No need of Adobe cloud, so yes it is relevant

Never used LR Mobile, no interest but I'm at a loss to understand how anyone could lose all their data forever if they didn't back it up. Synced to the cloud seems to suggest there are two sets, the cloud and a sync to ?
This isn't an excuse for the bug. But who doesn't backup anything they can't afford to lose?

More people than what you would believe.

Well that's a tough lesson but hopefully thereafter, they learn.
