How do you get such a clean black background?
How do you decide how many exposures to stack?
(I've not tried focus stacking myself, but I might have to give it ago sometime.)

so in general one needs to take into consideration the depth of field at the scale size that is being considered to determine a step size. this shot was only at 0.5x or so and I have to admit that the step size here was somewhat arbitrary based on my intuition and I think it could have been smaller. clearly it didn't hurt using Zerene stacker.
