Latest Z7 firmware AF
« on: July 25, 2020, 09:19:06 am »

I have tested the new firmware of the Z7 using my own usual workbench, excited kids running around indoors in crapy led lighting lacking power.

And I am happy to report that the Z7 with 85mm f1.8 S is now very good. Firmware 3.0 was already a very significant improvement, but as far as eye AF in AF-C mode goes 3.1 is even better.

It’s still not quite as good as the a9II but it’s IMHO at the same level as the a7rIV.

Cheers,
Bernard

Thanks, seems to be an worthwhile update that I might not have applied otherwise.

Ditto.

Strange that Nikon didn't mention this in the update details.

I know...

There is zero functional change though, it just works better:

The eyes are detected faster, it’s a lot stickier, even when focus isn’t perfect it’s very rarely completely off -> as a result the hit ratio is higher.

Cheers,
Bernard

I just wish I could keep my 2 second timer. The moment I turn off the camera I lose this. It's super irritating. I know I could set up an exposure delay, but I don't always want an exposure delay between shots.

I can understand- also other things shutting off the camera and loose the focus...
I really don't understand why Nikon does not make a simple Wifi trigger device as i use already 15 years from Hahnel.
Even with the app on the phone it always has to use AF before a shot.  I don't understand.

That one is indeed annoying.
