my first post in this forum after silently enjoying many very educated discussions here. Thank you to everyone for the rich source of information!
I got hold of a used x-rite i1 pro Rev.E for a phenomenal bargain at only 150€. The only accessory that came with it though is the calibration plate. I have to admit, that I have no real use for it other than to satisfy my curiosity in light and colors. Since then I have happily taken spectra of different light sources with argyll and replaced my Spyder 4 for monitor calibration. Yesterday, I also bought the ArgyllPro android app which is a really great tool.
By now, I realize that some of the accessories are really missing, e.g. the holder for the monitor and especially the cap for ambient light measurements. I didn't have any luck when looking for replacement parts. So I guess, I will have to build something as a replacement.
I feel confident to design and 3d print a monitor holder. It would simplify matters, if i could borrow an original monitor holder for reference. Does someone with an i1 pro 2 happen to live in Munich / Germany and be willing to give away the holder for a day?
The ambient cap seems more difficult to me. I hope to also find a DIY replacement, e.g. using matte pmma sheet, which seems to have a very flat spectral transmission. As I understand, the i1 pro is calibrated to its unique ambient cap, similar to the calibration ceramic plate. Of course I fear to ruin the results with a DIY hack. I could live with a deviation in luminance, so that I have to multiply the readings by a factor. I also have access to a highend Spectrometer (Instrument Systems CAS 120) at work, that I could use as a reference. With that, i could create a correction file. Remains the question, how to use that correction file. Can someone estimate, how important the calibration of the ambient cap is and if the pmma sheet is a good idea as replacement? Any other ideas?
