No xmp files?
« on: May 30, 2020, 07:02:32 pm »

I discovered that a particular folder has no xmp files and even after I tried CTL S to affix Metadata to the files nothing happened. There are a number of shots that I have developed in LR and PS in the folder. Anyone have any ideas?

Are those images raw, non-DNG files?

DNG files store the metadata inside them, no xmp generated, the same with tiff, psd, psb, etc.

Thanks. I became confused about this while working on old shots from last year - lockdown boredom, trying to find things to do - and I had one folder with .xmp files and one without. I can't remember now, but I think the one with them went through Phase One at some point because there is a sub-folder in there named Phase. Does P1 create them maybe? Can't think how else they could have got there while the other folder had none. All the best.

Yes, C1 creates xmp sidecars for any type of image when you write metadata back to disk.

IMHO this is not right because most applications willl not be able to read them for files that are supposed to have the metadata inside. For instance, there is no way to force PS or LR to read xmp sidecars for tif or jpg.
