LCD TV for image processing in CS2; good or bad
« on: December 06, 2006, 07:05:27 am »

Hi!
I have old Sony Trinitron 200sf CRT 17" and yesterday I was in shop for looking on new Samsung SM 205BW 20+" LCD but then...
I looked beautiful LCD TV AOC - 32W451B with perfect picture (DVD movie from PC via HDMI) (price 880 USD)
So question is: Does LCD TV have enough quality screen for accurate color-photo reproduction and Photoshop manipulations?

I'm amateur photographer not pro.

Thanx!

Maybe.  The colour reproduction will probably be close enough for casual use, but there may be insufficient screen resolution for editing software.  A 32 inch TV will have something like 700-800 rows of pixels, each about 1200 pixels wide.  In addition, your computer's video card may not be able to generate digital signals compatible with this TV.

As a picture *display* device (as opposed to a picture *editing* device) it will probably look good enough.  The digital camera image will likely be converted to TV specifications via an intermediate analog stage.

In short, you'd have to test it first to see if it met your expectations.

Here are computer display resolution equivalents for television displays

1,920x1,080    1080p/1080i
1,366x768     768p
1,280x720     720p
1,024x768     HDTV
852x480      EDTV
640x480      VGA

hope this helps - John

Thanx for answers!
I'll burn some photos on DVD and try how they look on LCD TV in shop.
