Hi,

I wanted to get peoples opinions on this situation. I received my Canon Pro-1000 Printer today. When I took a good look at the box there were multiple rips and punctures. Including on one corner.

I have not inspected the actual printer yet because I was thinking that maybe I should just return it outright.

My concern is that even if there is no visible damage possibly the internals of the printer. Should I open and if it is fine start using it? Or just Return it.

Thanks in advance.

Take pictures of all sides of the shipping box.  IIRC, the printer is not anywhere close to the sides and edges of the box and it's protected by foam inserts.  Call the company you purchased it from and explain what you have found and if necessary, send them the pictures.  It's quite likely the printer was not affected at all.

Agree with Alan

ABSOLUTRLY !  Couldn't agree more with Alan's advice and his opinion that there's likely no damage to the printer at all.  However it's always best to be in touch with both the retailer and Canon.  Send all pics taken before opening the box as evidence of container damage as received.  If you wait until you discover some sort of issue with the printer it might be too late to open a case file with the retailer or Canon, or perhaps both.

Good luck and update us with the final outcome  :) :D

When I received my pro-1000 the box was torn, crushed on one corner and one side was wet.  So wet the cardboard was falling apart, the driver admitted it got soaked in his truck when he left it open during another delivery and it suddenly rained.
The driver unpacked the box in my garage, with the understanding if either of us was concerned he would take it back.  He was actually concerned the box was so bad, they would not be able to ship it back.  We both agreed nothing inside was damaged.  The printer and everything else was fine, and dry.  Printer has been fine.
These are well packed.  You are likely fine, but I would confirm with the seller as noted above.

If it were from our company, we would inform you to inspect the box for damage and refuse it if it looked bad and contact us after refusing.  Once you sign/accept the printer and open the box, it's usually not returnable unless the company approves it being returnable for a replacement.

Usually the warranty covers any issues otherwise.  If the box looked bad, there's a "chance" the printer was affected if there was rain damage to the box itself.  Padding can only help so much, but it's really having the customer do "best judgement" per seller policies with hardware.  Not saying the printer WAS affected in any way, but this is just experience from what our customers go through.  Very rare occasions the printer is damaged though, but want to be safe than sorry in cases where the box shows much sign of damage.

Surely take pictures as reference and call the seller to discuss though.  Worst case is they will recommend calling Canon to move forward.

Thank you Alan and everyone else for the helpful answers. I did take pictures of the packaging and contact the retailer and let them know the situation. I've decided to unpack it and do some test pages and prints. If those work out alright I'll keep it.

Again thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and thoughts on this.
