X-rite color management program - scanner profiles
« on: May 01, 2020, 10:21:17 am »

The Epson V850 scanner I just received came with x-rite color management software for scanner profiles.  What's it used for?  How do you use it?  Is it worthwhile?  The unit also has the Epsonscan software and Silverfast SE software.  I normally shoot color transparencies like Velvia 50 and had been using Epsonscan previously with my V600 to scan medium format.  Now I'm shooting 4x5 as well, hence the need for the V850.  Thanks. Alan.

For (duh) making a scanner profile that defines the color space of the 'raw' (it's not really raw) scanner RGB for color management and eventual conversions to an RGB Working Space.
As to it being worthwhile, if you make a scanner profile and compare the results without, you'll know. I suggest you try making a scanner profile.  ;)

The reason I mentioned that the unit came with Silverfast, is I thought that it also did something with profiles.  I also have Lightroom.  So I'm wondering how all this works together and if there is any overlap? I don't want to unnecessarily uncomplicate things.

Got nothing to do with Lightroom. It's used when scanning, used within SliverFast.

Do you know if it could be used within Epsonscan?

Also, notice in attached picture in Epsonscan, there's an ICM setting where you can select Monitor RGB or sRGB.  What's Does ICM stand for?  What can I do with this checkoff?  Is it similar to what x-rite color management is doing?

For reference, my monitor is a NEC PA242W calibrated with Spectraview II to RGB or whatever I need.
