Getting out there before the maelstrom of panic
« on: April 26, 2020, 07:28:58 pm »

Just as the clamp-down was getting a foothold, I took a drive with my friends in tow, one a photographer, the other an older man who just wanted to get out. We took the "scenic route" to a show two of us had work within and made it a day out in the countryside which for me was a lot of "macaroni-and-cheese" comforting landscapes that I've returned to lots of times through the decades.

It just so happened the clouds were in our favor to add interest to the subjects that a clear sky just won't do.

Here's four from many from that day:

1. Field gate, Salt Spring Valley, 2. Salt Spring school, 3. Felix School and former PO, 4. 28 Mile Rd.

Good shooting, Larry. Perhaps it's strange, but my favorite is the last one. It's a standard. Dorothea Lang did it. Walker Evans did it. I've done it. It always grabs me no matter who does it.

Good series. Big sky and solitude.

Thanks for the kind comments! Here's four more from the following weekend when things were getting a little more cinched down, even out in the sticks.

1. Sierra Nevada foothills. 2 & 3.  St. Catherine Catholic Church in Hornitos (made famous by Ansel & Ed years ago...), 4. Further down the Sierra Nevada foothills.

I'd love to have an outing like that one just about now.

The black and white make these photos feel more powerful. Good choice.
