can newer Epson ink be used in older Epson printers

I have a Epson 9600 that still works fine and would like to continue using it. I use only OEM ink but it's been mentioned that Epson is no longer making any ink for it so I was wondering if anyone has successfully put ink from their later models in it using refillable cartridges such as K3 or HD? I realize I'll need new profiles but that's a minor inconvenience compared to having to replace altogether.

With an Epson you can do just about anything you want.
I would go with InkPro, less that $200 for the inks, refillable carts and chip resetter.
Don't know anything about the inks but at that price you could probably just refill and print away.
Or you could get a set of refillable and purchase something like K3 to put in the carts.
You should be able to find a fair amount of K3 from Epson owners that are moving up and their printer no longer works.

Absolute Inkjet has cartridges for your printer. Their description says "...Cave Paint Elite inks are freely mixable with the original inks and have the same color performance so that existing profiles and color settings can be happily used."

I believe that they've been available for a long time and that they should be a good choice.

I'm not interested in 3rd party inks as they all fade fast. I just want to stay with OEM inks because of their long display life.

Mike, in your position, and especially knowing you care about print permanence, I have to think the logical approach would be to harvest K3 inks (except light gray) intended for the 7800 / 9800 and put them into something like the refillable cartridges that Precision Colors sells (https://www.precisioncolors.com/E8WA_Carts.html). I guess then the big question would be whether you want to step up two steps to the 'with vivid magenta' version for the 7880 / 9880. Do that and then reprofile--if necessary, you could rent an i1Studio (e.g., https://www.lensrentals.com/rent/x-rite-i1studio-spectrophotometer) to do a bunch of decent-qualiity profiles quickly and cheaply--and I bet you'll be good to go for a while.

This is exactly what I'm considering, I just don't know how well the newer inks work with the old head. Will they damage it? That's why I was wanting to know if someone has already tried it.
