Unusual test print Epson 7600
« on: April 16, 2020, 08:02:11 pm »

I have been nursing my teenage Epson 7600 and have dealt with clogs etc. for years. I did a test print yesterday and the light  magenta channel was completely blank. After a few cleanings and a simple green soak I did another test print. The full pattern was there ( no broken lines) but fainter than usual. I have never seen this before. Any one run into this before?  I made a print and it appeared to have a slight green tinge.

This may still be a clog or the head isn't functioning properly with those nozzles unfortunately  If you've been having issues before and haven't dealt with it for a while, than came back to it and did cleanings, the head may have problems upfront vs getting the nozzles to fire.

I believe many customers were having issues with either the magenta's or yellow within this series too and it's probably due to the head.  Downfall is that Epson has discontinued the ink for this model a few months ago and it's limited on inventory now through companies since Epson doesn't have much of anything left upfront.

If you find someplace that has ink for it, you're lucky otherwise.  If you are looking to get back into printing, you may have to look for a new model or find 3rd party ink to continue using it.  As much as we don't recommend 3rd party, this is your last option to keep using it; and there is the possibility that it could damage the head further since it's not Epson's formula made for the head.

Good luck though and hope this helps.

Hi, in this thread it seems as if epson driver 9.65 in combination with MacOS Mojave caused magenta/red issues on a P4900 - not the youngest, either. This issue is not completely resolved yet, but a driver update to 10.35 seems to resolve that. Perhaps worth a try, if appropriate.

Problem solved!  My light magenta was 3rd party ink since I could not find any more Epson ink in that color.  Went on Ebay and got lucky and found a couple OEM cartridges and replaced the 3rd party cartridge and after about 8 sheets of cardstock light magenta it came clear!  I'll keep nursing the 7600 along- I bought it on Ebay in 2011 for $100  and  certainly got my money's worth. Thanks for the suggestions.
